Nothing in the music industry came easy to Reba.

She wasn't some silver spoon-fed princess who grew up on the "right" side of the tracks and had her path to stardom paved with gold from daddy's wallet. Instead, her natural talent, combined with solid, traditional values instilled in her from the outset by her parents, helped Reba work her way up to the top the old-fashioned way -- by earning it. "Everything I've done in my career is a result of growing up in rural Oklahoma, because if I hadn't had the training from Mama and Daddy to work hard, to do what I'm told, to take directions, to mind and to do a good job at anything I set out to do, then I wouldn't be where I am today," she says.

Variety: McEntire's energy and enthusiasm seem to shed a new glow on the whole production. And of course the particular qualities of McEntire's lovely singing bring something fresh and exciting to Irving Berlin's score.

New York Times: WIthout qualification, the best performance by an actress in a musical comedy this season. Ms. McEntire doesn't need a gun to bring Manhattan to its knees.

New York Journal News: Amazingly, this is McEntire's Broadway debut - in fact, her first appearance in a play of any kind. After a long and fruitful career in Nashville, she suddenly makes Broadway her oyster.

A BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Personal:  Born March 28, 1955 in McAlester, Okla and was raised in Chockie Okla.

Education:  Reba attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant Okla., where she majored in elementary education and minored in music.

Family:  Reba divorced her first husband, champion steer wrestler Charlie Battles, in 1987 after 11 years of marriage. She married her road manager and former pedal-steel-guitar player, Narvel Blackstock, in 1989.  The couple have one child, a son, Shelby.  Older sister, Alice Foran, is the (retired) director of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services office in Atoka.  Brother Pake McEntire, owns a cattle ranch outside Kiowa, Okla., and performs at rodeos with his three children.  Younger sister, Susie Luchsinger, is a contemporary Christian recording artist.

Excerpt from "Reba: My Story":  "There wasn't any pampering in the [cattle] pens.  One time, Daddy and I were there, worming and branding, and it was getting close to 11 a.m., the heat of the day.  There wasn't a breeze at all. I was standing real close to the fire that kept the branding irons hot.  Next think I knew, my legs went out from under me and I was out.  I guess I had a heatstroke.  When I came to, Daddy was taking a drink out of the water jug.  He saw I was coming to and handed the jug to me, helped me to my feet, and we finished our job."
